My Background

Hi. My name is Filiz. I am a transplant in the West Coast from Turkey.  Growing up, I loved meat, although over time I fell for the “plants are healthy for you” spiel and was fairly heavily plant-based in the two years leading up to my experimenting with the carnivore diet. I had reduced my animal products consumption significantly (including meat, down to one meal a week). I cannot say that I was in poor health, although my physique and outlook on life and health left much to be desired. I was in the worst shape of my life as I can recall and just was not feeling great. I was gaining weight around my mid-section, an indication that I wasn’t doing great metabolically.

 

The Leap of Faith

I was inspired to experiment with the carnivore lifestyle focused on meat after three people I had met over the course of my travels shared their experiences with it. Had I only watched Jordan Peterson or Shawn Baker, I probably would not have thought much of it. However, seeing the results in these three acquaintances was compelling.

My initial motivation was weight loss; however, I discovered digestive issues I didn’t know I had. I used to wake up in the morning with a gut on fire urging me to rush out of bed. That is a thing of the past now (they had resolved within a week of ditching carbs and fibre) and that alone has helped keep me on track with the lifestyle. I do not know what was up with my gut. At-home test kits I had used had made some associative suggestions based on my gut microbiome “profile” (ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s, etc.) but that had been the end of it as I had not pursued the matter further after receiving my test results. I have lost weight indeed, albeit more slowly than anticipated. And that’s fine. The digestive benefits of removing fibre and carbs from my diet alone are worth it.

Other benefits: I have stable energy throughout the day. The post-lunch drowsiness is a thing of the past. My focus is better and I’m not chasing forty things at the same time. I do not get acne unless I overdo dairy. The seborrheic dermatitis on my scalp has disappeared, as has my compulsive drive to pick at that irregularity. I feel better physically, too – when once I used to just lie around on the couch, wondering if my hiking days were over, now I look forward to, and enjoy, a hike or a swim. And need I point out that when once I used to have to stuff my face every few hours instinctively to keep my blood sugar up, I now enjoy the freedom of food not having power over me, immensely – I hated being a voracious, ferocious snacker and didn’t know it. I cannot see myself going back. For the first time in my life, I am able to fast.

 

My Commitment to You

I have been fortunate in that I was able to tap into the experiences of those friends who experimented before me to get insight and advice. Now I want to be here for you during your adaptation and journey of discovery so that you, too, can experience the improvements I have and more. Whether you are a beginner or have been experimenting with different stuff, I’m all ears. If I don’t have the answer to a concern, I will see if I know someone who does. Feel free to drop by my Carnivore Glow meetings on Tuesdays at noon Pacific time (members get access through the community calendar) where we discuss the more “superficial” topics that are a reflection of our improving health (skin, hair, nails, teeth, eyes, etc.)… At other times we will end up talking about the TMI stuff relating to gut health as carnivores are wont to, to the point where I’ve received a suggestion to rename the meeting “Carnivore Go”… Sometimes, too, we will play an online game with a carnivore theme to get our glow going as well. There are few things prettier than glowing carnivores laughing.

 

We will convene at your convenience to discuss your goals and your expectations in all things carnivory, including (but not necessarily limited to) your relationship with food over time.
